Last week we had the pleasure of sitting down with Whitney English for the first of our Bombshell Bride interview series. The babe-a-licious fun continues today with Danielle Cuccio, who popped by mindbodybride to spill the beans on her engagement, how to destress during wedding planning, and why her fiancé thinks she doesn’t need to wear makeup on the big day.
Meet Danielle Cuccio
Engagement Date: June 19, 2015
Wedding Date: August 6, 2016
Years Dated: 3
mindbodybride: Planning a wedding is like taking on a part time job, which is why a lot of brides leave their nutrition and fitness routine until the last couple of months. At what point did you prioritize your bridal wellness and how do stay motivated to fit it into your busy schedule?
Danielle Cuccio: It is like taking on a part time job!
As a yoga instructor I know how important it is to stay on top of my “ish” when life gets nuts. I am making it a point to get in my workout or relaxation at least 4 – 5 times a week, even though I now have more meetings and emails than normal.
If that means waking up at 6am to get to a 7am yoga class, then that’s what it takes. I know it sounds nuts since I teach yoga all day long, but without my “me time” I know that I’ll suffer … and so will my fiancé and clients!
MBB: What three words sum up how you want to feel as a bride? Why are these feelings so important?
DC: Beautiful, romantic and dreamy.
I feel that your wedding day should be the most romantic day you ever have. It is your day to be with the person you have been wanting for your entire life, the person you are choosing to be with and grow old with. Plus it’s a day to celebrate with your favorite people! I want it to feel so amazing that I almost feel like I’m dreaming.
And of course, I want to look my best!
MBB: What’s your favorite arm exercise for Bombshell Brides?
DC: Nothing beats a yoga workout! Do 10-20 vinyasas a day and tell me your arms don’t look amazing? I swear it’s what keeps my arms in shape!
MBB: Think about life after “I Do”. What is your motivation for staying fit and healthy longterm?
DC: Nothing is better than feeling good. When I get my workout in I feel more energized, clear and “with it”, so I make better decisions. I also know that my bod is looking amazing since I have been consistent with my workouts.
This is a long term commitment and I know that if I want to feel and look good in the future I have to workout, eat healthy and find time for myself — luckily yoga helps me do two of those at once.
MBB: You’re a big fan of meditation. What is the simplest way to bust wedding planning stress if you only have 5 minutes (and you don’t know how to meditate)?
DC: Close your eyes and BREATHE!
So simple but it’s crazy how most of us just panic in times of stress. One of my favorite techniques to quiet your mind from all those extra thoughts is called The 20 Count.
Here’s how to do it:
- Count to 20: one on the inhale, two on the exhale, three on the inhale, four on the exhale… and so on
- When you get to 20 start again from the beginning
- Once you get to the end of your second set just let your mind be free
Quieting the mind on your big day is so important as it helps you to focus on what really matters (hint: you’re getting married to a great person) and not worry about the things that might go wrong!
MBB: A lot of my brides have trouble sleeping with all of those To-Dos running through their brains. Do you have any tips for getting good quality zzz’s?
DC: Meditating before bed is great. Try the simple breathing exercise I described above or feel free to listen to some of my favorite meditation music listed here on my blog. Music is a great way to tap into the parasympathetic nervous system — causing rest and relaxation.
I also love having a good cup of tea each night and I do recommend putting away your computer or phone about an hour before bed. Of course I say this as I’m answering these questions at 11pm (BAD Danielle!)
MBB: You’re going to look amazing on your wedding day, no doubt about it! But it’s also a bit nerve wracking to be the center of attention. How do you boost your confidence before a big event?
DC: Eating well and working out will do you wonders, but I also think that relaxing your mind before the big day is important.
Just breathe in and out through your nose and tell yourself, “I AM BEAUTIFUL”. I am a strong believer in intentions and, as silly as it sounds, we are what we believe. So if you believe you look beautiful, you will be!
Also make sure that you give yourself love that morning — stretch, take a bath, relax, have a nice healthy breakfast — and be confident in knowing that your husband-to-be has chosen YOU and that’s an amazing thing! Tyler (my fiancé) recently told me that I don’t have to wear any make up on our wedding day and that made me so happy.
But, in all seriousness, don’t think I’m not wearing makeup on our wedding day!!
MBB: Ok, so you’re getting married on a desert island. You can either take flowers, music, or dessert, but not all three. What would you choose?
DC: Oh man….. dessert! That was easy.
