Being engaged is great motivation to adopt healthy new eating habits, but that doesn’t mean saying “NO!” to every treat. Here are 9 of my favorite healthy packaged snacks, that will make treating yourself a pleasure, without derailing your hot-bridal-bod goals.
The products that I’m sharing in the list below are the kind of treats that I’m happy to put into my body, the one’s that don’t make me feel blah.
What I like about these particular products is that they have a short ingredients list, with nothing artificial, and are (generally speaking) the least processed compared to other brands.
But keep in mind that treats are treats!
Your best bet for getting wedding-ready is to follow the 80/20 rule, which means that your daily plate should be made up of:
- 80% vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, high quality fats (think avocado, grass-fed meat, fish, nuts and seeds) and fruit
- 20% reserved for those tasty extras
The easiest way to stick to that ratio is to choose one treat a day, and remember to read portion sizes on the nutrition label.
Delicious & Healthy Packaged Snacks For Hot Bridal Bods
I’m loving this non GMO popcorn, with its itty-bitty little kernels that are easier to digest (this is great news for me as popcorn can sometimes hurt my stomach). Stick with the classic Sea Salt for a low cal, low sugar snack.
As a (self-proclaimed) chip connoisseur I can say that these brands are spot on. The bonus? Not being left with weird orange fingertips after treat time! Remember to read the serving size on the packet to know how many chips is in one portion.
Cape Cod Reduced Fat Potato Chips (simply 3 ingredients + 40% less fat = yum factor.)
I’ve been putting my body on the line in recent months to find a lower sugar ice cream that tastes like the real deal. You’re welcome. Here are my two top picks:
Agave Dream: This brand has about 1/3 of the sugar per serve than many other ice creams (10g – 13g in a half cup), and it’s still delicious.
Coconut Bliss: A vegan alternative that you wouldn’t know was dairy free. They have lots of flavors to choose from, with about 15-17g of sugar per half cup.
I enjoy dark chocolate daily — I have a square in the morning with my coffee and a couple of pieces after dinner. Here are some of my favorites:
Lindt – Smooth, creamy, and reasonably priced. Try the 85%.
Equal Exchange Chocolate – This fair trade chocolate is really yummy too, but it’s a little more expensive at about $5 per block. Go for extra dark, or extreme dark if you’re feeling adventurous.
While yogurt isn’t necessarily a “treat” for some people, this thick and luscious brand may change your opinion. Choose ‘plain’ to keep sugar down, stir through your own fruit or honey, and add fun toppings like homemade granola.
This nifty snack is handy for those days when you forget to soak your chia seeds. They have a variety of flavors and are fairly low in sugar, but you’re paying extra for the convenience and I don’t love all of the packaging.
Now I’d love to hear from you!
Like anyone else, I will often find myself in the supermarket totally mind-boggled about what to buy. Perhaps you can lend me a helping hand by letting me know YOUR favorite healthy packaged snacks in the comments below.
