My 5 Favorite Skin Care Products

I was fortunate enough to attend the Luxe Launch 2016 Gala last night at the amazing venue, Vibiana in downtown L.A.

In addition to oohing and aahing over stunning tabletops created by some of LA’s top designers — and enjoying champagne, canapés and ice cream — I had the opportunity to model a beautiful couture wedding gown designed by Jinza Bridal.

As I was having my makeup done, the artist asked me for my “secret” to clear and glowing skin and, specifically, what products I used. This is a question that I am often asked, so today I want to give you a run down of my favorite non-toxic skin care products.

Non-Toxic Skin Care Products – The MBB Pick

A healthy body is made by what you put in it AND what you put on it. Products that are made with artificial fragrances, colors and harsh chemicals not only irritate the skin, they can also wreak havoc on hormone balance and weaken the immune system. Read the ingredients label on your products and if they’re not up to snuff you might consider swapping them for some of the brands below.*

The Honest Company: body wash, shampoo, hand soap and body oil

I started using Honest products last year and have been really pleased with them so far. The company strives to reduce use of chemicals, as well as minimize their environmental footprint.

Toms Of Maine: deodorant and toothpaste

I was hesitant about using a natural deodorant, especially in my line of work, but I’ve found success in the Tom’s brand. Plus the company has a strong sense of social responsibility, donating 10% of profits to charity, as well as their one-for-one program.

Leven Rose Beauty: organic, cold-pressed jojoba oil

I love this stuff and use it everyday! It works as makeup remover, moisturizer and hair conditioner. Again, this is an environmentally friendly company and doesn’t test on animals (well, other than themselves!)

RMS Beauty: concealer and mascara

RMS products are made without chemicals, synthetic preservatives, synthetic vitamins, and genetically altered ingredients (GMO). As I rarely wear foundation I like to use the Un Cover Up for a light coating when I go out. It moisturizes and evens out skin tone without hiding your beautiful, natural face! Natural mascaras keep my lashes feeling so much healthier and stronger.

Paula’s Choice: face wash and exfoliants

These products, which are made without fragrances, dyes or ingredients that can harm skin health, are a staple in my cleansing routine. They are relatively affordable, easy to order online, made in the USA (with locally sourced ingredients) and never tested on animals.

Paula Begoun is also the queen of myth-busters when it comes to cosmetics and skin care – with tips like why organic isn’t necessarily better, and why you should put down that expensive jar of eye-cream.

I interviewed Paula last year on creating a bridal skin care routine, you can read it here.

Now I’d Love To Hear From You!

Are you ready to make the swap towards non-toxic skin care products? Perhaps you already have! In the comments below share your favorite “healthy” beauty product and why you love it.

With love,

Jennifer Dene

  1. Hi Jennifer Dene!

As you know, I’m not the young, blushing bride, but rather 1 year away from turning 70! I love following your program and seeing all the cool products, great recipes, workout plans that you have found or developed.

I mostly use OBAGI Skin Care products. It can be very hard on your skin at first because it has retinol as one of the “Steps,” so I recommend taking it slow, using no more than required, which is about the size of a pea. It can be ordered online or from a skin clinic. It’s pricy for the entire set of products, but it is absolutely the best thing I’ve used to get rid of fine lines, it makes my skin glow and makes me feel good. One set usually lasts 6 months.

I also use a line that is available at drugstores and Ulta called Lumene. Great, light moisturizer, night cream, eye cream and so forth.

Since moving to SW Florida I’ve become very aware of the damage sun can do to a face! Some of the women down here look so old it scares me! Also, lots of “Plastics” down here. Everyone looks alike!

I always wear 30spf on my face. Always! Even if I am just running to the store.

I will check out your favorites too!

  2. Hi Jenn!
Great post 🙂 I’ve been trying all sorts of new and interesting skincare lines. From the totally toxic but results driven lines (which caused me to break out!) to the basics of oils. It’s been quite a interesting experimental process. I’m looking forward to trying Goop’s new line, Honest Company’s new makeup line and perhaps dabbling in Beauty Counter’s whole life line. My fav natural deodorant that I’ve been using for a long time now is Clay Dry by Adama. Good stuff!

    • I’m definitely interested in trying Goop’s new line too, it sounds like it could be a great hit. I’ll check out the Clay Dry deodorant too – thanks for the recommendation!

  3. I switched over all of my skincare and makeup products to Lemongrass Spa Products. It’s natural, free of toxic chemicals (including sulfates, phthalates, parabens, etc). It’s glutenfree too. Haven’t looked back. Love the products and know it’s healthier and safer for me and my family!

Bridal Bootcamp: The Strapless Dress Workout

Today’s wedding workout has three main benefits: to tone your arms, to improve your cardio, and to make you feel like a total badass. I’ve chosen moves that will primarily target your upper body (hello strapless dress), but there’s also a good bit of love shown to your abs and legs. When I edited this…

Why Brides Need To Rethink Weight Loss

I don’t want to be another health expert who stands here and says: “living at your ideal weight is easy”. Because for many women the ability to create a body and life that they love seems needlessly complicated, and even unattainable. I get it. For many years I struggled with low self-esteem, eating disorders, and…

Bridal Bootcamp: Full Body Bridal Workout

Tie those laces ladies; bridal bootcamp is in session! All you need for this workout is lots of energy, and maybe an exercise mat! Even if you don’t have that energy right now, I want you to do the workout anyway. Remember that exercise actually boosts your energy, improves your mood, and is just a generally…

Healthy Date Ideas On A Wedding Budget

Stuck in another date rut? Wedding planning killing your love life? I get it. While getting takeout from your local spot and watching movies on Netflix is fun, sometimes you need to bust out of that comfort zone. If saving for the wedding has your purse strings pulled tight, then hitting up expensive bars and restaurants might…
