Healthy Wedding Registry: 5 Must-Have Items

This first read “Vitamix or other high-powered blender” but I’ll  be straight with you when I say that the real deal is worth it’s $$$ price tag. My Vitamix is the most used appliance in my kitchen, even more so than the dishwasher and oven combined. I use it daily for  smoothies, dips, desserts, making flour, nut butters, soups, pesto, salad dressing, and milks. Consider your cooking needs before you register for the latest model as a slightly older one may be adequate, unless you are running a professional kitchen, and it will be cheaper.

Heavy cast iron pan

Lightweight, non-stick pans may be easy to use but the toxic chemicals are simply not worth the risk, plus you will never get a great finish on a piece of meat like you can in cast iron. Healthy eating starts and ends with flavour after all. Emerilware would be my number one pick – they are heavy, but great quality and affordable.  I can also recommend Le Crueset from personal use and word on the street is that Lodge Logic does a good cast iron skillet.

A great set of measuring spoons, cups and jugs

Something cheap to counterbalance the lavish requests above! Cooking from scratch is the ultimate healthy eating suggestion and that’s what makes these simple tools so essential.  Glass measuring jugs from Pyrex; stainless steel measuring spoons from Cuisipro; stainless steel measuring cups from All Clad.

Soda Stream

At first I thought this was another flash in the pan infomercial product but the more I see the more I want one. Not only will you save money by making your own sparkling waters but you eliminate tons of plastic waste. Hurrah. A Soda Stream is on my Christmas list, so husband if you are reading…

A Slow Cooker

A girlfriend randomly bought me a slow cooker, just because I didn’t have one. It has been a game changer. Stocks, stews, roast vegetables, low sugar desserts, sauces. Tick, tick, tick.

Bonus: 3 Items That Aren’t Worth The Splurge

Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer

Don’t get me wrong, this is a beautiful piece of equipment and if you are heavily into baking it’s worth the investment. Just ask yourself whether Aunt Sue spending $349.00 on an occasional-use mix master was worth you missing out on an everyday-use blender?

Complicated Coffee Machine

Save money, speedy clean up and minimize waste. French press. Enough said.

Veggie Chops or anything with multiple parts.

In the past we have had a Magic Bullet, a Cuisinart mini food chopper and a tool with the specific purpose to slice avocado and only avocado. Save your cupboard space and your registry dollars by having two great knives and a solid cutting board. The only gimmicky piece I care for these days are fabulous little citrus reamers. Register for one of these babies, just not at Williams Sonoma because they are charging double. For a wooden stick. Hmm.

Bridal Bootcamp: The Strapless Dress Workout

Today’s wedding workout has three main benefits: to tone your arms, to improve your cardio, and to make you feel like a total badass. I’ve chosen moves that will primarily target your upper body (hello strapless dress), but there’s also a good bit of love shown to your abs and legs. When I edited this…

Why Brides Need To Rethink Weight Loss

I don’t want to be another health expert who stands here and says: “living at your ideal weight is easy”. Because for many women the ability to create a body and life that they love seems needlessly complicated, and even unattainable. I get it. For many years I struggled with low self-esteem, eating disorders, and…

Bridal Bootcamp: Full Body Bridal Workout

Tie those laces ladies; bridal bootcamp is in session! All you need for this workout is lots of energy, and maybe an exercise mat! Even if you don’t have that energy right now, I want you to do the workout anyway. Remember that exercise actually boosts your energy, improves your mood, and is just a generally…

Healthy Date Ideas On A Wedding Budget

Stuck in another date rut? Wedding planning killing your love life? I get it. While getting takeout from your local spot and watching movies on Netflix is fun, sometimes you need to bust out of that comfort zone. If saving for the wedding has your purse strings pulled tight, then hitting up expensive bars and restaurants might…
