Super Spring Detox Green Smoothie

Super Spring Detox Green Smoothie

Rise and shine, it’s green smoothie time! I can’t believe I call this a wellness blog when I still haven’t shown you how to prepare my super detox spring smoothie! Today I will right that wrong and get you in the kitchen, blending your way to bridal health.

Green smoothies can seem intimidating if you are new to clean eating, which is why I have three delicious recipes to share with you today, one for each stage of the smoothie journey. I have personally transitioned from being a fruity, milkshake drinker to a hard-core green machine, as has my husband, so I know it can be done.

Incase you’re still unsure about drinking your greens, get a load of this: Recently my I will not eat greens” mother-in-law tried one of my green smoothies, enjoyed it and even asked for the recipe! Wahoo! I picked up my jaw from the floor, fist-pumped the sky and stuck that recipe on her fridge door. If she can do it – you can do it!

Despite the differences in the recipes below each one shares three multi-functional ingredients that are a vital part of any brides healthy diet: pineapple, chia seeds, and ground flaxseeds. Each of these ingredients provide an abundance of vitamins and minerals for healthy hair, stronger nails, whiter teeth, clearer skin, brighter eyes and better immunity. They are also all high in fiber, which aids your digestive system and increases feelings of fullness to help to prevent overeating.

Pineapple

Pineapple contains a certain type of digestive enzyme called bromelain, a natural anti-inflammatory agent that helps to break down and absorb proteins from the food you eat. Bromelain also helps to relieve stomach aches, heartburn and diarrhea. Pineapple is a great source of soluble fiber, which slows down digestion and provides time for the vitamins and nutrients from the food you eat to be absorbed into the bloodstream. The nutrients found in pineapple – such as potassium, vitamin C, niacin, manganese, vitamin B-6 and folate – are wonderful for the health of your skin, bones, teeth and hair. These nutrients also boost the immune system, helping you to feel healthy and vibrant through all the wedding celebrations.

Flaxseed

Flaxseed is another wonderful source of soluble fiber that contains essential omega 3 fatty acids that lubricate your digestive system and encourage easy elimination of waste. Another benefit of flax is that it contains lignans that can help to normalize the menstrual cycle by balancing estrogen production and absorption in the body during the first two phases of your cycle.

(note – flaxseeds must be stored in the refrigerator as the oils can quickly go rancid)

Chia seeds

Also high in fiber, chia seeds help to stabilize blood sugars and are loaded with calcium, omega 3 fatty acids, iron and vitamin E. Hello glowing skin! Chia is also a complete source of vegetarian protein.

The quantities of these ingredients differ in each recipe, assuming different levels of current fiber intake. If you have not previously had a lot of fiber in your diet start slowly and drink lots of water. Please note that increasing dietary levels of certain foods and supplements can impact medications so talk to your doctor before starting any new routine.
