A Savory Buckwheat Pancake + 2 copies of ‘Cleanse Yourself’ to giveaway

Exactly one month ago my husband and I moved from North Carolina to the Los Angeles Westside. We loaded up our little red Mazda and set off along Interstate 40 for a 7 day cross-country drive. Somewhere between Fort Stockton, Texas, and Las Cruces, New Mexico, Nat Kringoudis’ weekly newsletter popped into my inbox advertising her gentle body cleanse. I had been a keen follower of Nat’s blog for a little over a year and, as another highway diner meal loomed ahead of me, it seemed like the perfect time to purchase give this e-guide.

Cleanse Yourself is described as a “grown up, modified, improved and all round beautiful” Gentle Body Cleanse written by Nat Kringoudis, doctor of Chinese Medicine, author, speaker, fertility expert and founder of The Pagoda Tree.

Cleanse Yourself is quick to read, simple to understand, easy to follow and visually delicious. Nat explains why and how your body needs to cleanse, what hurdles you might expect to face during the cleanse, and provides a 5 day eating plan with easy recipes.

I enjoyed participating in the cleanse for many reasons, but my most transformational discovery was learning that my body thrives on a cooked plant based diet. By switching from my predominantly raw foods diet to a larger portion of cooked foods, I noticed a decrease in stomach aches, bloating and fatigue.

Nat explains that digestion occurs at around 37 degrees Celsius (98.6 degrees Fahrenheit). This means that the gut must ‘heat up’ raw food before it can be digested and assimilate the nutrients into the body.

As someone who grew up on a slew of antibiotics for throat infections and various illnesses, my gut is pretty weak. While I thought I had been strengthening my digestive system by eating raw foods, I was actually exhausting it by creating twice the work of heating and then digesting. This is a great reminder that there is no ‘one size fits all’ diet.

The cleanse recipes are nutritious, filling, simple and really tasty, and Nat and her team have given me permission to share one with you today. My pick is the buckwheat pancake with hummus, avocado and tomato mix up. This meal not only is easy and inexpensive to prepare, and it also feels luxurious to eat – like I am digging into a fluffy pita bread. I encourage you to try this recipe and share it with your future husband and bridesmaids too; you might as well have everyone glowing with health at your wedding ceremony!

  1. This would definitely help me keep my unhappy gut under control seeing as I cannot eat raw or cold foods. Plus if it’s going to help me put a baby in my belly by rectifying imbalanced hormones I’m all in

  2. I have especially become interested in cooking my veggies, as raw ones make me feel like someone has kicked me in the gut! I recently read that our bellies don’t have teeth ( obviously) and that has made me more aware of chewing that food and not inhaling it during a 5 minute lunch! Can’t wait to check out this book!!

  3. I recently quit the pill, but because of that I have some hormonal issues (acne, greasy hair, etcetera). Also, my gut really needs some extra TLC (to make both my body and mind happier) and this book would definitely help me! 🙂

    • Hi Marieke,

Thanks for stopping by! While the ebooks have already been given away I think that you will find Nat Kringoudis has a lot of useful information on her blog. I hope that this site will also continue to be a helpful source of information + inspiration as I strive to post recipes, workouts and mindfulness activities that are in line with digestive health, fertility and mental clarity (I went off the pill in 2012 after 10 years, so I understand the awful side effects and hope to help women through that same time!)

I look forward to seeing you again in the mindbodybride comments, and wish you luck with balancing those hormones – you will feel so much better in just a little while 🙂

Why Brides Need To Rethink Weight Loss

I don’t want to be another health expert who stands here and says: “living at your ideal weight is easy”.
